A few days ago I met Carol in the Element Fresh at Sanlitun.
The Ginger orange carrot juice tasted well i have to say. Don’t know about your drink, Carol?
Afterwards I checked the Mizuno store for some running shoes. They would give me a big reduction if I bought the shoes straight away. From 880 yuen they went to 500 yuen something and I didn’t even started to bargain. Business is going well there it seems.
With Carol we talked about the show at C-space and I tried to explain a bit what ALSO_SPACE means for me or where it stands for.
Perhaps Carol is able to bring up the talk more precise but I will at least try to put it back to 2 points.
1. ALSO,
Stands for a position that we take in. We refuse to be uncommon, we are around as well.
We are active, perhaps unclear what it is, and try to show the activity in a logical/direct way. In that way we are able to exclude ourselves from uninteresting representations of idea’s, pictures and wishes.
We are surrounded by enough recognizable pictures in this world. We don’t have to confirm what we know by producing more asignable pictures. Doing so we would exclude ourselves of what we don’t know or are not aware of. Not finding also layers of today.
We open up and make it possible to meet layers. To meet, in the sense of unexplainable understanding of complexity?
We have to refuse to work within the framework of the existing images because they are mainly uninteresting and makes us very depending and passive.
We act, being aware of our own EGO. Being egoistic with an open mind towards the other. Egoistic, because we are at first, open because we are living together. It is like in the airplane-instruction. Please but on the oxygen-mask onto yourself and only then to others.
One other point is that we should slowely find some answers to be able to go out of the art of daily practise rethorics.
2. SPACE,
– We take in space.
We are more carefull about our (artistic) public activity. Where are things taking place? A certain situation ask for a certain approach or solution. It takes more energy to do so, it seems less economical and is more difficult to explain but at the end without thinking to much it looks more natural, less formal and we are dealing with real experiences, how small or big they are.
– Space more scientific.
How do we related ourselves to the use of spatial experiences and the concept of space.
We use quite an old or square way of perceiving space or at least I do. But what if we are able to make an infinite exhibition, space-and structure wise, and it is possible. We could leave decisions of the form of the work to an automatic system, we could free ourselves of uninteresting choices of already known solutions. Relating space to time, the same exhibition could last for 5 light years as well as 1 hour.
We could be able to show a sculpture and navigate into the sculpture itself, because all solid bodies are open bodies.
Reconsidering the possibility or function of space gives us some points to leave the discours of art and daily live without having to leave interesting parts of that approach because daily life will be there always of course.
But daily live for example in a lot of galleries but also in newspapers is a format and nothing but that, nothing daily in it.
Perhaps Carol can but some extra words to this or maybe type in some chinese lines.
